Six Nations paramedic dragged by vehicle

News Jul 17, 2017 by Sean Allen The Sachem

A man who fled from first responders in Six Nations on Sunday morning dragged a paramedic with his SUV for a short distance during his escape.

At around 4 a.m., Six Nations police called for assistance from an ambulance to deal with a report of an unconscious man in a vehicle near the library in Ohsweken.

Paramedics found a beige SUV in the parking lot and started attempting to gain entry to help the unconscious man in the driver’s seat. As they were attending to him, he woke up, put the vehicle in gear and sped off.

One of the paramedics was dragged by the open driver’s side door for a short distance before jumping to safety.

The vehicle struck the nearby ambulance, drove over the lawn of the library and headed north on Chiefswood Road. A police cruiser travelling southbound on Chiefswood briefly spotted the vehicle and believes it turned eastbound on Fifth Line Road.

Police are hoping for information from the public to try and track down the suspect vehicle. Specifically, they hope to speak to a woman who was near the SUV when paramedics arrived, but fled the scene on foot.
