The Brantford Symphony Orchestra is highlighting the talent of three young local musicians.
Violinist Emma Morrison, and pianists Bryn Blackwood and Tatyana Palmer will take the stage with the BSO for Hey Kid, You Want to Play With an Orchestra? on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts.
“This gives them the opportunity to perform with an orchestra as a soloist,” said BSO music director Philip Sarabura. “I know from my experience in the music business that experience is everything. As you gain experience at doing things, you develop contacts, you develop your abilities.”
Local youth auditioned for the concert in June and Morrison, Blackwood and Palmer were chosen to each perform a movement of a concerto for their instrument.
This is the first time the BSO has invited local youth to share its stage, but the plan is to have the concert run every other year.
Tickets cost $42 per person and can be purchased at the Sanderson Centre box office at 88 Dalhousie St., by phone at 519-758-8090 or online at www.sandersoncentre.ca. Thanks to a grant from TD Bank Group, tickets for students and one accompanying parent per student are half price.
