Paris Performers’ Theatre warms up winter

Paris Performers’ Theatre’s latest production aims to warm up cold winter nights with an inspiring comedy that looks at the nature of family and the individual.

“The Tomorrow Box is a heart-warming, funny and ultimately illuminating family comedy-drama by one of Canada’s leading playwrights,” said the play’s director, Linda Lloyd-McKenzie.

Written by Anne Chislett, the play explores family life through the sale of the Cooper family’s St. George farm. Jack Cooper sells the farm to his son, Joe, with plans to move to Florida with his wife, Maureen.

Only problem is, he didn’t tell Maureen. Pushed to her limits, Maureen resorts to drastic measures to get her farm back.

“I think our audience will be able to relate to these characters and to the story,” McKenzie said. “I strongly believe the character of Maureen will resonate well with our female audience members, especially. I feel like we all know someone like Maureen, whether she be our mother, our grandmother, ourselves.”

The play stars Don Vanstone, Bonnie McCrae, Alex Riker, Andrea Graham and Jill Thompson.

Performances of The Tomorrow Box run at the Paris Fairgrounds Feb. 17 and 18 and Feb. 23 to 25 at 8 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at Green Heron Books in Paris or by calling 519-302-0169.
