Paris Fairgoers will say Thank You for the Music when ABBAmania takes the stage this summer.
The tribute to the 1970s Swedish pop-rock-disco foursome recreates the feel of ABBA in concert with a cast of 14 studio musicians and full stage show.
The production will take place on Friday, Aug. 31, beginning at 8 p.m. in the J.H. Buck Exhibition Centre.
“ABBA is a supergroup, they are timeless,” said Russell Press, general manager of the Paris Fairgrounds. “You will be able to sing along to every song. The show itself is a full stage production, there is full costume, there is full character replication. It’s as close to seeing ABBA as you can get.”
ABBAmania is made up of an all-Canadian cast and considered the largest production of ABBA music in the world. It is the only production to perform twice for the cast of Mamma Mia.
ABBA’s recent resurgence in popularity, thanks to a feature film and musical, along with the success of last year’s tribute act Forever Diamond (a tribute to Neil Diamond), is what drew the Paris Fair’s homecraft committee to invite ABBAmania to perform at this year’s fair.
“They are extremely well-known,” Press said. “They play at the big stadiums, so when we had the chance to get them for the Paris Fair, we jumped on it.”
Like all events at the 154th annual Paris Fair, ABBAmania is free to attend with fair admission, but there are only 500 seats available, so come early, Press said.
