The Paris Mounties had to settle for another weekend split to keep their record at .500 four games into the Niagara and District Junior Hockey League season.
The Mounties couldn’t come back from a 3-1 first period deficit on Friday against the New Hamburg Firebirds, losing the game 5-2.
Goaltender Andrew Masters played shutout hockey for almost two periods after the Firebirds had a 5-1 lead early in the second frame, but the Mounties couldn’t generate the offence to get back into the game.
On Saturday, Brandan Verasamy’s hat trick was the difference in a 5-3 road victory against the Aylmer Spitfires.
Cole Cummings contributed a goal and three assists while Ian Fowler chipped in four helpers.
