She may not be headed to the 2012 London Olympics, but marathoner Krista DuChene continues to push herself to improve.
DuChene shaved a stunning 2:16 off her personal best 5 km time at the Burlington Downtown Dash on Thursday. She finished the race as the top woman and third overall with a time of 16:32.7.
DuChene finished almost a minute and a half ahead of the second place female competitor.
After taking a break to recharge following the July 1 decision by the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada to not send DuChene and fellow marathoner Lanni Marchant to London for the Olympics, DuChene is preparing for intense training ahead of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
DuChene and Marchant are the top two women marathon runners in Canada.
DuChene said on her blog that her “Plan B” is to run a new personal best at the Toronto marathon on Oct. 14 and then earn a spot at the 2013 World Track and Field Championships, which take place next summer.
