Crushers host Ontario squad

Brant News

Sean Allen BRANT NEWS Goaltender Jessie Gregory's sledge hockey worlds collide next weekend at the Brant Sports Complex. Sledge Team Ontario will hold a training camp next Saturday and Sunday at the Brant Sports Complex with the Brant County Crushers. Gregory plays locally for the Crushers in the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association and is also one of the netminders for the provincial development squad. The 17 players from the provincial team will be conducting on-ice sessions with the Crushers on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. Sledge Team Ontario was created to give top players in the OSHA an additional outlet to develop their game outside of league play. The goal is to develop athletes for Canada's national sledge hockey team. "This program has proven to be very valuable in the development of elite players in Ontario," provincial head coach Todd Sergeant said. "This year, the team is much younger in comparison to years past. However, the skill level is higher and the potential for some to move on to the national team is good." The provincial team boasts a 2-2-1 record so far this season. The public is encouraged to come out and watch the practices for insight into the sport.
