Trojans claim senior title

Brant News

Jason Teakle BRANT NEWS For a fourth year in a row, an undefeated North Park Collegiate Trojans senior boys volleyball team has claimed the Brant County high school championship. The Trojans downed the Paris District High School Panthers 3-0 in a game at Assumption College on Thursday night to claim the best-of-three final 2-0. "We have been undefeated throughout the seasons for the last four years," said NPC head coach Sandy Beedham. "This team is scrappy and they play with heart. This is a great way to end the year." Beedham said her squad is ready to win at the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association tournament in Cambridge on Wednesday. "We're optimistic," Beedham said. "The bench is deep this year, so I can go to the bench if I get in trouble." NPC's Dan Howell said it was "awesome" to win the championship. "We've been focusing on our energy a lot," Howell said. "Our passing really helped and we had huge blocks." Members of the senior Trojans team have been playing together for a few seasons. "We've been building since Grade 9," player Vishal Brar said. "Altogether, we're 56-0 in Brantford. "We're motivated and we're trying to get ready for CWOSSA because we want to win this year. I think we have a great chance." Trojan Jon Dulmage said NPC has continued to improve this season. "Our hitting has improved a lot," Dulmage said. "The effort from our new players kept us in there in some games." PDHS coach Lisa Graham said her team needs to improve on its passing before heading to a CWOSSA qualifier in Mount Forest on Monday. "We really needed to work on our passing today," Graham said. "Everything starts with a pass. "We're constantly working on communication as well as our offensive strategies."
