On the heels of another successful International Villages festival, Brantford residents are getting set for another cultural extravaganza in the city.
Brantford’s third annual FestCaribbean will take place later this month at the Branlyn Community Centre. The festival, well attended in its first two years, is designed to provide local residents a true taste of Caribbean culture.
“The whole driving force behind it is for people to get a common understanding of who we are as a people,” said festival organizer C.G. Dillon. “We are rich in culture, if not the richest in the world in terms of culture. People don’t often see that aspect of it because they get blindsided by stereotypes.”
Like the villages, FestCaribbean is designed to build bridges and understanding between cultural communities in Brantford. For that reason alone (not to mention its stellar entertainment lineup), FestCaribbean deserves our support.
