Two men are facing assault charges after city police responded to an incident on Marlborough Street Sunday night.

Officers arrived in the area shortly before 11:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man being assaulted by two other men.

Police say the victim was walking when he was approached by two men unknown to him. The victim was punched, knocked to the ground and kicked in the head during the assault.

Officers found a man with facial and head injuries lying on the sidewalk. The 43-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police located two men on foot in the area who matched a description of the suspects and arrested the pair shortly after the incident.

A 27-year-old Peterborough man and a 46-year-old Superior Street man are charged with aggravated assault.
