Three youths charged after breaking into vehicles

Three youths are facing charges after a resident witnessed the trio entering vehicles on McGuinness Drive during the early morning hours on Saturday.

Brantford police said the resident called investigators shortly before 1 a.m., providing descriptions of the youths. Officers quickly found the suspects on McGuiness Drive.

Investigators say five vehicles were entered and items were stolen from each one.

Officers located stolen property in a backpack on one of the accused, including a GPS system and an iPod, which were then returned to their owners. Clothing, an adapter and a USB cord were also seized during the incident.

A 16-year-old male is charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000, five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and caring a concealed weapon (a hunting knife). A 15-year-old male is charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000, five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and obstructing police. A 15-year-old male is charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000 and five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Officers are encouraging residents who have had their vehicles broken into to contact Brantford police at 519-756-0113.
