SIU investigates crash at Charing Cross and West streets

Staff Report
BRANT NEWS

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Charing Cross and West streets on Sunday afternoon.

Brantford police contacted the SIU following the crash, which occurred as an officer attempted to stop a northbound Ford F-150 pick-up truck on West Street at about 4:45 p.m., according to a media release issued by the SIU on Tuesday.

The SIU says the truck accelerated, made a U-turn and collided head-on with a Ford Explorer pick-up truck, which was stopped at the corner of Charing Cross and West streets.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to Brantford General Hospital for treatment of injuries.

A 35-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 suffered a fractured clavicle and his 28-year-old passenger sustained a fractured ankle.

The SIU has assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstruction expert, to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact 416-622-1957.

The SIU is a provincial agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

    — Unless shots were fired there is no reason for the SIU to be involved in parsing out the reckless decisions of civilians. This is just a big waste of tax-payers money. Something we’re getting better at, here in Ontario.
