A Brantford woman is facing charges in relation to a scam after she asked three homeowners for money on Friday.

City police say the woman attended three homes in the area of Lida Street and Rose Avenue. The woman claimed her car had broken down and she needed money to pay for a tow truck.

On one occasion, a victim offered to contact the police to assist her, but the woman said police would not help her.

A 40-year-old woman is charged with three counts of false pretenses and three counts of breaching probation.

Brantford police fraud unit investigators are examining similar recently reported incidents to determine if the woman is responsible for other fraud attempts.

Officers are encouraging people to resist being pressured into giving anyone money without first verifying the person’s name and authenticity of their story.

Police recommend calling a neighbour, family member or police before handing out cash and to never let a stranger into your home.
