The Canadian Diabetes Association is rolling out the red carpet for its 10th annual Holiday by Design event.

“Every year we’ve tried to give a different, colourful and fun look,” said Lorraine Hagan, co-ordinator for the Brantford branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association. “This year, it’s Stars on the Red Carpet.”

The Best Western Brant Park Inn ballroom will be decked out in old Hollywood glamour on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., emcees Doreen Dorschner and Stacey Farrant will greet guests in the festively decorated lobby, awarding those with the best “bling.”

Guests can take part in a contest to match the outfit to the celebrity, participate in swing and ballroom demonstrations and get some early Christmas shopping done at the event’s style market.

“This is one of our best years as far as vendors go,” Hagan said. “You can buy for your children and you can buy for your girlfriends and moms. There’s all kinds of fashion and we have McCormick Florist for your Christmas flair.”

At 12:30 p.m., Brantford firefighters will escort guests to their seats inside the ballroom for a luncheon and presentation that will include tips and tricks for throwing a holiday party, a jazz performance and Broadway act.

Guests will go home with a sparkly “bling” gift from Santa.

“He knows they’ve been good all year so he’s got an early Christmas gift waiting for them,” Hagan said.

The event is a fundraiser for the Canadian Diabetes Association and runs at the start of Diabetes Awareness Month. Funds raised help the local organization run educational events every spring and fall.

“The money helps benefit our community,” Hagan said. “A lot of people come to those events and learn about how to manage their diabetes and they learn more about diabetes because complications with diabetes can be nasty and anything we can do to keep people well, that is our goal.”

Tickets to Holiday by Design cost $55 and can be purchased by calling 519-756-9131 or visiting www.holidaybydesign.ca.
