Working to raise awareness of stroke in Brantford

Janet Plastow from Nurse Next Door, Brant Community Healthcare System stroke co-ordinator Wendy Pomponio and Lori Santilli of the Adult Recreation Therapy Centre spent the day in Lynden Park Mall on Friday teaching shoppers to recognize the signs of a stroke as part of stroke month. The first three hours after the onset of stroke symptoms are vitally important, but fewer than 25 per cent of stroke victims get emergency treatment and medication during that crucial time. People are encouraged to call 911 immediately upon feeling or noticing symptoms of a stroke.
