The Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation took to the radio on Friday to raise funds in support of local health care delivery.

The second annual Radiothon in support of the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation, held in partnership with CKPC Jewel 92 and Country 1380, took place at the Brantford General Hospital.

The event aimed to raise $100,000 for the purchase of capital equipment for the Brantford General Hospital and The Willett.

“We did this last year and the community came through for us,” CKPC Country 1380 host David Georgeff said. “We raised $100,000. I was amazed when we reached that total. We’re back again because we need more this year.”

The Radiothon encouraged local residents and businesses to become monthly donors to the foundation.

Sherri Bocchini, president and CEO of the BCHS Foundation, said the Radiothon is a great way to promote the importance of donations from the community in support of health care.

“This is about communicating the importance of raising funds to benefit patient-centred care,” Bocchini said. “This allows us to tell the excellent stories of our patients and staff about how health care at the Brant Community Healthcare System benefits their lives.”

Brant MPP Dave Levac said the BGH provides second-to-none health care delivery.

“There have been massive improvements and an evolution in this hospital,” Levac said. “We are now attracting some of the world’s best physicians and specialists because of what is happening at this hospital.”

Peter Jackman, vice chairperson of the BCHS Foundation, said funding is required to sustain quality health care in the City of Brantford and County of Brant.

“We need to generate funds to keep this fantastic organization moving forward,” Jackman said. “The government does not pay for capital equipment. When we bought our MRI, we went to the community for funding.

“The Ontario government provides the operating funds, but if it is capital equipment that is required, it is up to the foundation.”
