Police charge former NHLer in hunting death

Six Nations resident and former NHLer Stan Jonathan has been charged with criminal negligence causing death in the hunting accident that killed a Hamilton man Sunday.

Hamilton resident Peter Kosid was bow hunting when he was shot in the back and killed at about 8 a.m. (Read story here).

Police said Jonathan and Kosid did not know each other.

On Wednesday, Six Nations Police arrested and charged Jonathan. He was held for a bail hearing in Brantford.

Police said Kosid was shot at a range of about 375 metres as he was hunting on land owned by a friend. They said the shot came from an adjacent road.

Jonathan played 411 NHL games – predominantly with the Boston Bruins – between 1976 and 1983.

    — Wow! I remember him as a really good player. Too bad he picked up a high-powered rifle, in the bush.
