Paris Fair seeks ambassador

Staff Report
BRANT NEWS

It’s time to pick a new Paris Fair ambassador.

On Aug. 30, contestants aged 17 to 23 will compete in interviews, speeches, impromptu questions and professional poise at the Paris Fairgrounds to become the 154th annual Paris Fair ambassador.

The Paris Fair ambassador program helps contestants build life skills, friendships and a sense of community.

“It gave me a chance to explore my own community, meet people from many walks of life and explore where I see my future leading,” said 2011 Paris Fair ambassador Michelle Linington.

As ambassador, Linington had the opportunity to practice her public speaking, as well as work with media and alongside Paris area volunteers and businesses.

“The experience went way above expectations, showing me not only what a huge fair Paris has, but also how proud we should be of our local community, as well as our agricultural society,” Linington said. “It is something everyone should think about doing.”

New this year, each contestant will be assigned a mentor, who will be available to help him or her prepare for the competition. Assistance ranges from updating resumes to preparing for interviews, helping with speech writing or just answering questions along the way.

The goal of the program is to provide all contestants with the opportunity for skills development.

An orientation night for the Paris Fair ambassador program will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Paris Fairgrounds. E-mail info@parisfairgrounds.com for more information or an entry form.
