Pair arrested after being caught breaking into vehicles

Two men are facing charges after Brantford police caught them breaking into vehicles during the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Officers on patrol shortly before 4 a.m. in the area of Ava Road and Westmount Boulevard saw two men wearing dark clothing around a vehicle. One of the men was exiting a pick-up truck at the time and police arrested them.

Police were in the area as part of a proactive policing strategy in search of thieves targeting vehicles. Investigators say property was stolen from several vehicles that were entered in the area.

One of the accused was in possession of a backpack containing stolen items.

A 19-year-old Tollgate Road man and a 20-year-old Coronation Drive man are each charged with five counts of theft under $5,000, five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and attempted theft under $5,000.
