Laurier Brantford professor Brenda Murphy has been awarded a share of a $1.5 million Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant.

Murphy, with the university’s geography and environmental studies department, will receive more than $380,000 over five years to aid in her “Maple Syrup, Climate Change and Resilience” study.

The Insight Development Grant aims to build knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world by supporting research in its initial stages.

Murphy is one of four Wilfrid Laurier University professors – three from the Waterloo campus – to receive the grant.

“The breadth of research at Laurier represented here by both new and established scholars illustrates Laurier’s growing contribution to knowledge and creation in Canada,” said Abby Godorum, Laurier’s vice president of research.

Gary Goodyear, minister of state for science and technology, announced the grants on Oct. 1 at Carleton University in Ottawa.
