More homes were sold in Brantford and the County of Brant during January than the same month in 2011, but sales remain lower than levels seen during the second half of last year.
Homes sold through the Brantford Regional Real Estate Association’s MLS system numbered 105 units last month. The number marks a five per cent increase from January 2011, according to a media release from the association.
“While demand picked up a bit in January, activity remains below levels seen in the second half of last year,” said Sam Miron, president of the association. “At the same time, new listings have been on the rise.
“As a result, the market is becoming more balanced and that has led to a moderation in prices in recent months.”
The average price of a home sold in the Brantford area last month was $226,440, down two per cent from the same month last year.
New residential listings numbered 286 units last month, up by 14 per cent from January of last year. There were 557 active residential listings in the MLS system at the end of January, a drop of two per cent from January 2011.
The dollar value of home sales in January was $23.8 million, up three per cent on a year-over-year basis.
Total sales numbered 117 units last month, up eight per cent from January 2011. The total value of all property sales was $28 million, 10 per cent above levels reported in January last year.
