The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre reconstruction is two months behind schedule and more than $230,000 over budget.
A report from engineering and operational services general manager Geoff Rae to the committee of the whole on Monday night said that the cost overrun represents 0.36 per cent of the latest approved budget of approximately $63.4 million.
The project, funded by the city and a federal-provincial infrastructure fund, is currently in its second phase, which includes a new swimming pool tank and fitness areas as well as upgrades to the current pool.
Delays in the fabrication, delivery and installation of structural steel largely account for the work being 70 days behind schedule.
The reconstruction is tentatively expected to wrap up early next year.
