Fire rips through Brantford Native Housing
Staff Report
BRANT NEWS
A Saturday morning fire ripped through the second floor of Brantford Native Housing at 314 Colborne St., east of Clarence Street.
Six vehicles and 21 firefighters arrived on scene at about 10:45 a.m. and worked to contain the blaze to a room on the building’s west side.
The building’s four tenants had already evacuated before fire crews arrived. No injuries were reported and the tenants found alternate lodging.
Brantford fire officials estimate that the blaze caused $100,000 in damage.

Because, Garry, landlords and/or landlord companies have a legal obligation to find and provide their tenants alternative housing in cases of emergencies, such as infestation, flooding, fire, or other disasters that make their homes unliveable.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Puzzled? Seriously? If this was to happen to someone you know, would you not offer your home to them for at least an evening?
& what Brandi said- landlord tenant act, Insurance & Red Cross etc common decency & compassion should explain why anyone in this type of situation would have the ability to find alternative housing quickly.
& perhaps Kanata could be used for its intended purpose someday, when the web becomes less sticky. Which is not housing.
BNH is a non-profit organization (part of a corporation) which has nothing to do with the pot your trying to stir about “Mohawk Workers, & Kanata” -> google is your friend, use it.

Using the fire at Native Housing for an uneducated smack at the Mohawks of Kanata Village and why they are there, shows the level of understanding behind his remarks. If he or anyone else really wants to know why they are there, simply go there and ask.
The fire at BNH should not evoke such a racist response from any right thinking person.

TwoRow – I am confused about your statement “such racist response”. If you talk about Kanata, is it racist? You probably don’t think so. If Garry, mentions Kanata, to you it becomes racist. Sorry, but that is not rational thinking.
Garry has proven time and again that he has done an astounding job researching native claims and he always reflect sources while you, and others in Kanata, always are promoting your race. Even your handle reflects your race.

I simply suggested I was puzzled about why natives were living in native housing if very quickly after the fire on the same day they got “alternate lodging”. It didn’t say a room over night at some friend’s place. it said “alternate lodging”. That sounds fairly permanent and they would have to find alternate permanent lodging because they won’t soon be able to go back to the burnt out native housing.
And what be would wrong with using the Kanata site for native housing?
Aren’t the Mohawk Workers willing to consider that to help native people?
