The Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation is encouraging healthier living practices to raise pledges in support of local health care delivery.

The BCHS Foundation has launched registration for its Healthy For Life Challenge, which will take place during the month of February, to engage the community in healthy activities while raising funds for the local health care system.

Amanda Kwist, special events co-ordinator with the BCHS Foundation, said anyone can participate in the challenge, which could see participants take part in activities including starting a running club, yoga, taking the stairs more often, quitting smoking, eating healthier or pursuing any other physical or mental wellness goals.

“This event focuses on small changes people can make in their lives to become healthier,” Kwist said. “Healthy living can be fun. We’re excited about this challenge because it is a way to engage the whole community.”

Sherri Bocchini, president and CEO of the BCHS Foundation said the organization is seeking to register 200 participants for the “pledge-a-thon” event.

“Our hope is that it will kickstart healthier lifestyles,” Bocchini said. “We have individuals, families and corporate teams registered for the challenge.

“We are trying to do something that promotes wellness and what better place to do so than in our health care system? This is an event that says ‘every dollar counts’ and you can support our health care delivery.”

Prizes will be awarded to the top pledge-earning individual, family, team, hospital family team and workplace. Pledges of $10 or more are eligible for charitable tax receipts.

Visit www.bchsysfoundation.org to register, submit health goals, fundraise and track your progress. People can also register for the event in person at the foundation’s office, located at the Brantford General Hospital, or by calling 519-751-5510.

A Healthy For Life community family event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Burford Community Centre from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. All residents are invited. The event will feature a free skate, complimentary lunch and other family-friendly activities. Donations will be accepted at the door.
