Families gathered in Burford on the weekend to participate in healthy activities in support of the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation.
A Healthy For Life Challenge community event drew about 200 people to the Burford Community Centre on Sunday to participate in a free skate and yoga sessions, as well as gather information from local private and public health care providers about how to live a healthier lifestyle.
“We feel the BCHS should be about preventative health,” said Sherri Bocchini, president and CEO of the BCHS Foundation. “We want to promote healthy lifestyles.”
The event wrapped up a month-long healthy living and pledge campaign, in which residents collected pledges as they made healthier lifestyle choices. The fundraising campaign raised more than $25,000 for the BCHS Foundation.
The BCHS Foundation launched its Healthy For Life Challenge late last month.
“There is a huge need for donor dollars to help build a strong health care system,” Bocchini said. “We will be able to purchase critical patient equipment as a result of everyone’s generosity.”
Dan Chagnon of Mobility Orthopaedic Rehab Centre in Brantford, who serves as a BCHS Foundation board member, said it is important to engage the community in healthy living practices.
“This is about the promotion of healthy living in our community, as well as the foundation, which supports our community’s health care system,” Chagnon said. “This is a great way for people to come out and support the health care system.”
