A single-vehicle accident on Highway 53 Friday afternoon has claimed the life of a 68-year-old County of Brant woman.

County of Brant OPP say officers responded to a crash involving a 2008 Nissan west of Middle Townline Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Police say the car was travelling eastbound on Highway 53 when it left the road for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

Barbara Kertesz, 68, succumbed to her injuries following the accident.

OPP technical traffic investigators are assisting with the investigation into the crash. Highway 53 between Middle Townline Road and Lawrence Road was closed for several hours on Friday afternoon.
