Everything’s great when you’re in downtown Brantford, according to a new “lip dub” promotional video filmed by the Downtown BIA on location in the city centre on Saturday.
Director Ida Adamowicz stationed about 50 participants at various locations in the downtown, including the Brantford Armouries, Sophia’s Bakery and Harmony Square. The group sang along to a rendition of Petula Clark’s Downtown, rerecorded for the lip dub by local singer Avery Kadish.
The footage was edited into a video that is posted on YouTube.
“This is a celebration of downtown. It’s not a business marketing tool, it’s a community marketing tool,” said John Bradford from the BIA. “This is going to encourage people to experience and appreciate downtown.”
Bradford said word of the lip dub has already generated thousands of hits on social media sites such as Facebook, with growing interest from people who live outside of Brantford.
Laurier Brantford concurrent education student and BIA intern Jessica Lau braved the cold to take part in the lip dub. She would like the video to show residents the variety of businesses and services available in the downtown core.
“I hope it promotes community with both post-secondary students and residents of Brantford,” Lau said. “A lot of people don’t know what’s going on in downtown Brantford, but they’re interested. So we need to provide that opportunity to let them know about events.”
Santa Claus himself will be featured in the finale of the lip dub, which was filmed in Harmony Square after the Santa Claus Parade.
