The City of Brantford will hold drop-in workshops for anyone interested in helping create mosaic artwork for the Children’s Memorial Garden.
Workshops run from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, and 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Mohawk College
The garden, located in St. Andrew’s Park on Brant Avenue, will include a public art piece, new pathways, outdoor furnishings, areas for reflection and a small gathering space.
The garden is designed to be a positive place for those who have experienced the death of a child to gather, reflect and honour the child’s memory.
Artist Heather Vollans has been commissioned to develop artwork for the garden. She will also host school workshops with students in September.
“We hope to give the opportunity to as many children as possible to take part in the workshops so that they can have a tangible stake in shaping the future of Brantford,” Vollans said. “Children also have a much better way of expressing themselves than (adults) do and we can learn a great deal from their participation in something this special for the community.”
Vollans and city staff will be on hand during the workshops to discuss the project.
