Federal Liberal leadership candidate Alex Burton made a stop in Brantford on Monday as part of a six-week cross-Canada tour that will take him from his home base of British Columbia to St. John’s, Newfoundland.

During a stop at Coffee Culture in Harmony Square, Burton spoke with Liberals and non-liberals alike about his vision for Canada.

“Instead of saying ‘I’m a politician, come see me,’ I think we need to get out of our bubble and talk to people where they work and where they hang out,” Burton said.

Burton touted his “stand for change” platform, which includes six key areas: building a just and secure society, democratic reform, revitalizing the economy and creating jobs for the future, examining Canada’s international reputation, creating a Canada of opportunity and rebuilding the Liberal party from the ground up.

“As Liberals we can’t go into the next election unless we come up with new ideas,” said Burton, who serves as a British Columbia crown prosecutor. “We have to make it clear that we are a party that stands for something.”
