BRANT NEWS
Brant News is once again being recognized as one of the top community newspapers in Ontario.
Brant’s 100 per cent local newspaper has received four nominations in the Ontario Community Newspaper Association’s 2013 Better Newspaper Awards.
“These nominations are a credit to the hard work Brant News employees and contributors put into our newspaper and website each and every day,” said Brant News editor John Zronik. “Our dedicated team should take pride in the fact they have contributed to making Brant News one of the top community newspapers in the province.”
For the third year in a row, Brant News has been nominated in the general excellence category, which recognizes overall achievement in editorial, advertising and layout.
A July 19 front-page photo of six-year-old Josiah Pluim cooling off at Mohawk Park during the summer heat, taken by photographer Mike Machado, has been nominated in the best news photo category.
Dave McCreary’s humorous take on the highs and lows of life in Brant garnered him a nomination in the cartoonist of the year category.
Finally, Brant News’ elf-themed Santa Claus parade giveaway earned a nod in the best in-house promotion category.
“I think it’s fantastic,” Brant News general manager Len Offless said of the nominations. “I think the nominations show the progress we have made over the past three-plus years and it shows that we are not only making an impact in our community, but we’re also making an impact outside of Brant.
“This is just the beginning of many more good things to come.”
The Ontario Community Newspaper Association is a non-profit industry association made up of more than 300 member newspapers throughout Ontario. Award winners will be announced during a gala at the Hilton Garden Inn in Vaughan on March 22.
