The medical officer of health for the Brant County Health Unit has issued a cold weather alert effective Tuesday to ensure all homeless people are provided with essential services.
Temperatures are expected to drop to or below -15 degrees Celsius without windchill, according to a media release issued by the Brant County Health Unit on Tuesday.
The health unit and the City of Brantford are working together with community agencies to ensure that emergency accommodation is available to people who are at particular risk. Anyone who does not have shelter is encouraged to seek it.
For emergency accommodation requests and other services, call the Outreach Program at 519-759-3330 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Outreach Program is located at 220 Colborne St.
For emergency accommodation after business hours and on weekends, call local police services including Brantford police at 519-756-7050, County of Brant OPP at 519-442-2242 or Six Nations Police at 519-445-2811.
The cold weather alert will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.
