BRANT NEWS

Brantford police have confirmed that a body found in the D’Aubigny Creek Park area on Friday morning was that of 49-year-old Jeffrey Powless.

Powless had been missing since Saturday night after he was seen leaving his Sherwood Drive residence. (Read the story here.)

The Brantford police criminal investigation section is assisting the coroner’s office with an investigation into Powless’ sudden death. His body has been taken to Hamilton General Hospital for a postmortem examination, said Brantford police Const. Natalie Laing.

Police received a call from a citizen at about 8:30 a.m. Friday morning who observed a person they believed was sleeping in a culvert in the area between Colborne Street and Spalding Drive.

Coroner Dr. William Tsuchida attended the scene, along with investigators from the Brantford police forensic identification section and criminal investigation section.

“We are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together,” Laing said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Mark Whitworth at 519-756-0113 ext. 2262.
