Brantford and area residents will get to take part in a new Storage Wars-style fundraiser this summer and three children's charities will benefit.
Local online networking group In Sync Brant is launching For the Kids Charity Bids, a public fundraising event to be held on Sunday, June 22, at All Canadian Self-Storage on Dalkeith Drive.
There will be a community garage sale, artisan and business vendors, food, music and entertainment, but the big draw will be mystery storage units that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
"We decided to do our own version of Storage Wars," organizer Valerie Wilson said, referencing the popular reality TV series. "We have more than 260 members representing the small- to medium-seized businesses that help grow our community. This is a chance for our members and others in the community to join us in giving back."
The proceeds of the fundraiser will support Lansdowne Children's Centre, Nova Vita Domestic Violence Prevention Services and the Brantford Food Bank, with the money ear-marked to support children who depend on the three organizations.
All Canadian Self-Storage owner Dan McGuin made the unique mystery unit auction possible by offering up his business as the location for the event.
"When (McGuin) suggested it, we knew it was the perfect location to capture the community's support," Wilson said.
In Sync Brant is looking for support for the event. To inquire about donating to the auction, contact Pamela deVries by email at email@example.com.
