Brantford police arrest man for theft from vehicles

Brant News

Staff Report BRANT NEWS Brantford police have arrested a 23-year-old Park Avenue man in connection to a string of robberies from parked cars. An alert resident phoned police just before 1 a.m. on Friday after spotting a suspicious male in the Donegal Drive and Maich Crescent area. Community patrol officers found the man rummaging through a vehicle parked in a driveway on Brewster Way. After making the arrest, officers canvassed the neighbourhood to find the rightful owners of property that had been stolen from several vehicles, including a laptop computer and several cheques belonging to a Donegal Drive resident. The suspect faces six charges of possession of stolen property under $5,000, four counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of breach of probation and failure to comply with recognizance. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. To discourage similar crimes of opportunity, police remind residents to keep car interiors free of any items, even loose change, that might attract thieves. Anyone with information about theft from vehicles is asked to call the Brantford police street crime unit at 519-756-0113 ext. 2286.
