A local organization is inviting residents to come out and bowl for a good cause.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie kicked off its 2012 Bowl For Kids Sake fundraiser on Monday at Wendy’s on Icomm Drive, announcing a $95,000 goal.

“This is our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Patti O’Reilly, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie. “This represents about 30 per cent of our annual budget for programs and services.

“We’re community funded and Bowl For Kids Sake is our largest awareness campaign.”

Brantford residents are invited to participate at Echo Bowl on Colborne Street East on March 23 at lunch hour, March 24 in the evening or March 25 at midday. This year’s theme is “Rewind To The ’80s.”

Renee VanderHarst, resource co-ordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie, said Bowl For Kids Sake is the most fun fundraiser in the community.

“Being a big sister is a relationship that evolves over the years,” VanderHarst said. “Being a support is incredibly rewarding.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie serves Brantford, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk. It is a United Way-funded agency that provided services to more than 420 boys and girls last year.

The charity anticipates an increased demand for its programs in 2012.
